WTF??

Jean Hastings is 74 years old???? That HAS to be a misprint, cause I could have sworn we saw her in Baltimore (or was it Jersey?)
In other news, I am getting sick and it didn't help that I was highly exposed to small dust particles this afternoon and I just ran outside in 50 degree weather in my shorts and flip flops.
Oh, and just to make it less of a hassle on my journal entries, I'm going to make my journal friends only, so if you read this and want to read more of it and are not on my friends list, comment.

What a WONDEFUL MORNING!!!!

GOOD MORNING EVERYONE! I hope you are having as lovely a morning as I! It was wonderful! First I got to get in my bed at 3am after doing a little bit of homework and also receiving a lovely drunken call from my friend Whitney and talking to her lovely drunk friends, and then I looked at my clock and it said 3:30 and I still wasn't asleep..I don't like when that happens. So, 10 Minutes later I am still awake but I hear the lovely loud cowbell of a fire alarm..(WTF IS HE online at 4:45 in the morning?)..back to story...so I am really confused and know "of course its not a real fire!" So I walk out of my room and wait for someone from my floor to go down with me and Zoe and Lauren come out and we walk down.
We get down to the basement and a lovely breeze of cold air welcomes us to the outdoors! All of Harborview slowly congregates outside on the grass, in the driveway, and in the courtyard area..a happy bunch we are!
I find various people to talk to and end up in a group of me, Heather, and Jen..nice people! I talked to Kat and Mitch for awhile too! I also said hi to Busted and Ray and asked them if this happens a lot...the sad answer is "yes", but unfortunately this will happen again in the even colder weather!
So we had to wait outside in the 58.7 degree weather for 45 minutes...a few drunk people too.
Finally they let us back in...but it takes about 10 minutes because EVERYONE has to go back in and they only let 20 people in every minute or so, and there are at least 44x14 people in this building, so if you do the math, thats a good amount of waiting!
Now I have 4 hours left to sleep and have no idea when I'll get to catch up with my sleep again because of the hectic week ahead.
I just love my school...really I do!

The funniest away message ever:
Scene: Watching Presidential Debate
Person 1: We should play a drinking game. Everytime Bush says something stupid, you take a shot.
Person 2: You can't do that!
Crazy Thought

So this is going out on a whim and of course its not probably true but just put out there for thought. What if the new Marius is Curtis Cregan?
He just randomly popped into my head when Ruthie said that he was at Josh's show and meeting Josh, but he's a friend of someone else already in the show (i.e. Ryan). And apparently he has dark hair...I'm not sure though what Curtis' hair looks like right now (I'm kinda thinking its a little bleached because of Hi-5, but its naturally dark.
Also, Curtis has a Mark/Roger range and thats what Scott Hunt was.
Hmm...

What to do?

What's up with this strange new LJ update page?
Anyways, I could run and catch the 4:40 shuttle to the ferry, but by the time I finish this entry it will have definetly been too late...and I still have work I should do for tomorrow...and for later, so I think I'll take the 5:40. The only reason I wanted to take the 4:40 was to be there in time for RENT lotto, but the only reason I want to see Rent again is for Drew and he'll be there for awhile, so its not an emergency.
I've found that now that I'm at school I don't update my journal as much...and it is NOT because I have a lot of work or better things to do...I just don't. I guess its better than spamming friends lists.
Yesterday I was really bored so I got Shara to go with me to the Staten Island Mall area. We were waiting around for the bus, but decided to take a taxi instead. I love how fast the taxis can get to school! It was a long taxi ride...I really didn't think Staten Island was that big!
We walked through the mall to get to the part I recognized. I couldn't see Michaels, but there was a Staples so we went there. I got photo paper and book ends so the books and dvds on my desk don't fall over. Then we went to CVS where I bought 3 cheap movies (West Side Story, Fast and Furious, and Tom and Huck). I bought Tom and Huck even because of my love for Big River and anything to do with Huck Finn is fun! It was nice to go to Starbucks too!
So we took an adventure back to school with the MTA Staten Island bus. We had to take 3 different busses, because walking through SI at night up the hill would be rather sketchy. We ran through traffic a lot to catch busses, and figure out what bus we actually had to take. But all in all, we made it back to Wagner alive and well.
I am getting bored of my classes already. Spanish tutoring was amusing this morning...I love Irina and Marcos...such fun people! Marcos is extremely adorable too. Ethics is blah, especially when talking about stuff you have to pay attention to because if you read it it isn't understandable. I got my first essay back and was surprised to see a B+/A- on it, especially considering many people got D's.
So tonight I am going to Jeremy's concert at 11:30pm, meaning getting back late again (though last Thursday it wasn't too bad). I kinda wanna see another NYMF show before it since it starts so late...if I do it'll probably be "Woman Upstairs". I also wanted to see the first preview of Brooklyn, but I'll be good and wait until student tickets start with that one.

Buckets!

If you look outside my window, it looks like its about to rain buckets. If you look outside the window in the hallway at the city, it looks like the pictures of NYC that you see in horror movies.
I wanna go to the city today...but I shouldn't. I have to do my homework so I can go to the city tomorrow. That would suck if the flea market is cancelled tomorrow...cause its supposed to rain really hard. So far I have woken up at 10:30, gone to breakfast, and then Marie and I went to the gym. Then I went to the football game because I've never been to one where MY school is playing (only 2 GA Tech games), so it was interesting. There are about 100 football players on the team!!! That's so crazy! I like that it was free to get in yet I still had to get a ticket. Marcos, the spanish tutor was getting a ticket behind me and he said "its so cool that you only need an ID to get a ticket!"...he's soo adorable!
Yesterday, I watched a little bit of QAF with Shara and then I walked with her towards the shuttle...and then we saw the shuttle already leaving so she had to run! I didn't do much yesterday. I hung out with Marie, Zoe, and Andy in Andy's room, and Ryan came in and out a few times. We came back to our room around 10:30 and went to bed...a very early friday night!
Thursday was fun because I decided to go to Matt's gig with Shara, Kat, and Kat's friends. Of course we had transportation issues, because Staten Island is the end of the universe, but we eventually made it back to Wagner around 3:30. I found it funny that two Wagner sophomores were at the gig too!
The gig was ok...but hanging out with people was more fun!

A guy tried to commit suicide in my dorm last night...
I didn't find this out until Marie came back at 1:15 and told me, but around 9:00pm or so, I heard a short cop siren and looked out the window to see 3 NYPD cars and various other campus security. I was too lazy and in pain to go find out what had happened, but I figured I'd find out later...and I did.
He tried to slit his wrists in the shower.

A Quiet Night At Home

I feel like Nadia except without the cello.
Today has been sucky. I woke up around 6 or something and had a really bad sore throat. I fell back asleep and woke up again to my alarm and still had a sore throat and my nose was hurting.
Spanish is boring because I know it already. RFT was okay, but it went 10 minutes too long which was annoying. We also got papers back and even though they don't have a grade, I still hate getting papers back. Dr. Sanchez basically wrote the same thing that I've seen on a lot of my papers in highschool "you've got the basic point Molly, now expand on it!"
Lunch was disgusting cause I was too lazy to wait in any lines so I went for the pasta which was undercooked and nasty. At least the cookies and milk were delicious!
My sore throat slowly turned into a nasty feeling in my throat, and its still there. I am already bored of my classes and its only the second week! I was reading my homework for Moral Problems and it took me forever because I couldn't understand what Socrates was saying...I don't like him!
I went to dinner with Marie and we concluded that we are already sick of the dining hall food.
Came back here and Marie went to Towers. I was checking my messages and Jen had called and told me that there is a "Womyn in Three" concert tonight which I could totally go to except I don't really want to go all the way to Manhattan in the rain.
So while I was talking to Jen, I was sitting on the edge of my bed with my legs over the wooden post. I was flinging my keys around because its a fun thing to do, and they dropped so I had to pick them up. To do this I ended up straddling the wooden post (that sounds so wrong) and as I leaned over all my weight shifted forward and I fell over except my legs had still been around the post and this cause great pain to my pelvis and upper leg. It still hurts a great deal and I have a feeling it might hurt even more tomorrow.
So thats my sucky day and I am totally bored!
On the bright side, I saw the cute boy at lunch!

Sigh

Marie went home today and she's coming back tomorrow. Its weird though, cause even though she's not always in the room when she IS here on campus, it still feels really different.
Instead of going into the city to get my fish, I looked online and found theat there was a Petland in Staten Island, so I took the bus over there. I actually took 3 busses to get there. 1 was just the S60 down the hill, but then I had to take two other busses to get there. It wasn't that bad though.
Staten Island is really interesting...diversity wise. I am happy that I noticed that, because thats what my LC is about and I think I might find it more interesting since I'm actually living in a place with lots of diversity!
The pet store was in a shopping center and there were lots of other fun stores there. I went to TJ Maxx and got a skirt, shirt, and pair of really cool shoes, all for 35 dollars!
I went to Michaels, but only ended up getting colored pencils, drawing things, and tape..no crafty things. I still want to decorate my room more, but I'm too lazy to get more stuff. Wagner has a aposter sale in 2 weeks, so I think I'll check that out!
I got two fish from the pet store...they were really cheap too! (1.99 each). The store had some really BIG fish which seemed more like the kind you eat than have as pets. Mine are orange and silver (one has more orange and the other has more silver). I'm going to name them Rod and Nicky, but I gotta watch them for awhile to figure out which one is which.

All entries must have titles...

I don't have an interesting title, so I just wrote that as my title..hehe. I am procrastinating from doing my work, and it is only the third day of classes! I started reading Plato, but it is rather dull, so I thought it would be much more fun to go on the internet, and then go with Marie to Ray's room, and then go to the Bookstore.
Ray's room was incredibly fun. He lives on the 14th floor and his roomate is really nice too! One of the peer leader guys was there hanging out and I remember him and he introduced himself to me saying "Hi Molly,I'm Chris" and then I said "I'm Molly"..I'm such a dork. He's an actor boy...yay! We listened to Wicked and they were dancing to "One Short Day" and doing all those technical dance terms because Ray was about to go to Jazz. They also have a wonderful wonderful view!
I have nothing else to say except for that I am incredibly tired and would much rather take a nap right now. I have to go to a Theatre meeting at 6:30 and then a floor meeting at 9:30 and I have to do all my homework too!
Blah...but I still love college so far!
ETA: This is a fun site with fun pictures and a blog! Who knew fiddler players were so cool! http://www.josephbrent.com/home.htm

I always feel so disconnected when I'm without the internet for a few days....
But I'm at school now!!! YAY!
I gotta go do Orientation stuff in a few minutes, but I just have to say that Scott Hunt is the most adorkable person ever and here is the conversation:
Me: Um, Hi Scott, um, my friends saw you in Les Mis and told me that I should meet you and we were trying to figure out the next Marius and were wondering if you were coming back?
Scott: Oh cool! No, I'm not...I'm done with Les Mis. They didn't call me, but if they did I would have said no. So I guess Josh Young jumped off the boat too?

Ok, so thats the only really interesting part of the conversation (though he did ask me my name and shook my hand!), but I kept thinking the whole "jumped off the boat" part was funny!
GO PURPLE PLUSH PIMPS!

So I went to the doctor today to get my stuff filled out for college and to get some wonderful needles pricked into my skin!
I got a blood test, a shot, and then a TB test. I think I actually watched the TB test, cause after it was done he was explaining stuff to me and I started to feel faint and was about to say "I feel faint" but the next thing I knew, I had already fainted. I don't think I was out to long and it wasn't a bad fall since I was sitting on the table-thing. My color had faded though.
So then I went to pack and ship a lot of my college stuff and got to see Bullet and talk to him a little and he is just so adorable! A non actor-boy crush!
Its nice to have gotten that stuff shipped (6 boxes!) and they should be there by Thursday which is good!
Gymnastics was VERY interesting tonight! The judges are really bad this year, but I'm glad that it didn't seem to affect Paul Hamm too much which I was worried about.
So a few hours pass and then I go into chat (some will be repeated in next entry) and at a non-talking part I decide to look over my health form and then read something about myself that I never knew.
So I know that I am short and not the normal height of people my age. What I didn't know is that I actually have a condition. I thought it was just that I was short. Apparently I have hypochondroplasia (some of that spelling is probably wrong), but up until today I NEVER knew that.
Its not really cool to find that out by just reading it on paper.
I looked it up on the internet and it kinda made me upset, but I'm over it....I just blame one of my parents stupid chromosomes that contained a bad gene!

Ooh!

I am home now after being gone for nearly two weeks. It's always nice to be back home, sad that its for less than a week!
I saw that Jeremy K has a gig in September, but on the site it listed some of his credits and he was in "Rhythm Club" at SIGNATURE THEATRE! The second part is really all I care about, but its cool cause he was in it with a few LM people (Lauren Kennedy, Meghan Lawrence (i think she was in it?) and Florence Lacey. I'll have to ask him about it next time I'm at Rent!

Schedule

YAY! I just called my mom and found out my schedule for Wagner, first semester!
Monday, Wednesday, Friday
Basic Spanish 1 10:20-11:20
Reflective Tutorial 11:30-12:30

Tuesday, Thursday
Moral Problems 9:40-11:10
Intro to Design/Technology (Theatre) 2:40-4:10

So I got my first choice Learning Community which is where I got the Spanish and Moral Problems classes from, and then the reflective tutorial is based on those two classes.
I'm pretty pleased with the times too! No 8am classes, and no extremely late classes. Wow, I just realized that on M,W,F I only have 2 hours of class.
There must be a catch behind this college stuff!

Bare interviews

I'm posting these for the purpose of archiving them in my journal

He originated the bit part of Fender in Hairspray while understudying the romantic lead of Link, then played one of Judy Garland’s short-lived husbands in The Boy From Oz while understudying movie star hunk Hugh Jackman. In BARE, John Hill finally gets his solo curtain call -- all he needs now is a stalker. Some revealing answers from John Hill, better know as Jason.

Dodger: What would you consider your career highlights before BARE?

JH: I've actually only had three jobs: the Miss Saigon tour, Hairspray and The Boy from Oz, so they must be the highlights.

Dodger: You mean you don’t count your gigs performing at theme parks as work?

JH: Oh that. I actually had a lot of fun working at Six Flags… then I moved on to Disneyland. The first thing I saw when I got there was Snow White smoking a cigarette and a dirty Mickey Mouse head on the ground. It was just a mess. There were like 1,000 people in the cast and the audiences thought we were all animatronic. Sometimes I would pretend I was and Japanese tourists would take pictures of me for hours. It was awful.

Dodger: Be careful… you don’t want to ruin your chances of getting cast in The Lion King or Beauty and the Beast.

JH: You’re right! [In a robotic voice:] Disney rules. I just love Disney.

Dodger: When you started performing in BARE, did you expect the fans to become so obsessed?

JH: Actually I find the fans are very nice and respectful. They don't say much and they don't stalk me.

Dodger: You sound disappointed.

JH: I am a little. Being stalked is the ultimate desire of every actor and the position of my stalker is still open.

Dodger: Is Jason the most challenging role you’ve ever played?

JH: As a teen I performed in a lot of plays at church and those biblical characters are very intense. The Bible has some crazy crap in it. I played Abraham, David, Jacob…

Dodger: With the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat?

JH: No that's Joseph. Jacob had a ladder.

Dodger: Just wanted to see if you were paying attention. What was your denomination?

JH: I belonged to the Church of Christ, which is like Baptist but more conservative. Even though I have branched off now in my thinking, I am very happy with the values it instilled in me.

Dodger: Were those church plays your training ground as an actor?

JH: Actually I had a really great high school theater teacher who was very disciplined and very encouraging.

Dodger: Did your high school have a uniform?

JH: Not officially. But it was one of those wealthy, white public schools where everybody drove a BMW and wore a sort of unofficial uniform.

Dodger: Sounds like Pretty in Pink or some other John Hughes movie. Did you enjoy it?

JH: I loved it. I was friends with everyone. I was confident with who I was and the way I saw the world. I hung out with the kids who dressed in black and with the cheerleaders… then made fun of all of them behind their backs. My parents trusted me and I behaved myself -- at least as far as they know.

Dodger: So you didn't go to any raves?

JH: No, although later I did go to a drugless rave in Saskatchewan, Canada while on tour. It was a healthy rave with Welch's Grape Soda.

Dodger: What's the deal with you thanking "pot" at the end of your bio in the program?

JH: I just did that for fun to see if old people would get mad.

Dodger: I notice you like to joke around a lot. Like I checked out your journal on your personal website www.johnhillonline.com.
JH: Oh God!

Dodger: It was hilarious! You have some pretty outrageous entries.

JH: Really? What did I say? I write them then I don't read them again.

Dodger: You had this whole rant about Nicole Kidman’s nose…

JH: OK this is the deal: Once this agent told me I should fix my nose and it gave me a bit of a complex. And Kidman's nose in that movie [The Hours] looks exactly like mine! I just hate the whole “Play an ugly person, get an Oscar” thing.

Dodger: I don’t think you have to worry about being considered ugly. In fact, didn't you once work as a boy toy bartender?

JH: I worked at a lovely lounge called XL and I bartended with my shirt off. It was kind of miserable. I just did it for the story. I lasted just a couple of months. My dream was to say, "I'm not coming in tonight. I got a Broadway show." Then I landed Hairspray and I got to say that.

Laid Bare: Kaitlin Hopkins

Posted by: on Jun 10, 2004 01:06pm EDT

After a decade in Hollywood, Kaitlin Hopkins returned to New York and garnered a Drama Desk nomination for her hilarious turn as a mother who abandons, then reunites with her half-human / half-bat son in Bat Boy-The Musical. In BARE, she again plays mama to a child desperate for her love, although as Peter's mom she elicits more tears than titters. Some revealing answers from Kaitlin Hopkins, better known as Claire.

Dodger: Do you just hate the fact that Claire is one of the few characters in BARE who doesn't get it on?

KH: Not really, since I get to go home with the Priest. Jim Price [who plays the Priest] is my live-in boyfriend.

Dodger: You're telling me that the Priest and Claire are sleeping together?

KH: That's right. We met on Bat Boy and this is the fourth or fifth job that we've booked together.

Dodger: Do you remember what initially attracted you to him?

KH: I think it was probably during [Bat Boy] when I was standing underneath him as he repelled down from the ceiling. I thought he had such a cute butt.

Dodger: You two don't actually get any scenes together in BARE, do you?

KH: Actually Jim and I think that we need a duet in the show, that that's what's missing. You know, Claire goes to talk to the Priest and maybe they fall in love but he can't love her because he's a priest and she doesn't want to commit a sin against the church.

Dodger: You've thought about this a lot, huh? Are you Catholic in real life?

KH: Nope, Jewish. I think I am the only one in the cast. We're the show in town with the fewest Jews.

Dodger: How did you and Jim become involved with the show?

KH: Dave Clemmons [the casting director] knew us from Bat Boy and he called us and asked if we could come do the workshop. I had lived in Los Angeles for 10 years so I was aware of BARE when it was kicking around out there.

Dodger: How fantastic that there were parts for both of you.

KH: It was a nice coincidence that we were both the right people for the job. And it made the project more appealing to us since we get to work together.

Dodger: Even though you guys don't get to fool around onstage, what kind of naughtiness do you engage in backstage?

KH: We've been together for three years now so the novelty of making out backstage wore off four or five shows ago. Although I never turn down a good kiss. And kissing in the confessional might be fun.

Dodger: Are the BARE fans obsessed?

KH: I was on Star Trek: Voyager and Deep Space Nine. Talk about crazy fans. I thought I had nutty fans from being on a soap opera for three years but they don't hold a candle to the Star Trek fans.

Dodger: Got any good geek stories?

KH: There's a fan I know. He's in Alabama. He went to a karaoke place and made a tape for me and he put my name in every single song. Like he'll sing, "Pretty woman – Kaitlin -- walking down the street, pretty woman – Kaitlin – the kind I like to meet…" This tape made me giggle.

Dodger: Wow, that's… I don't know what that is. Did you thank him?

KH: I sent him a signed photo.

Dodger: I know your mother is veteran actress Shirley Knight. Has she come to see the show?

KH: She's one of those moms who comes to see stuff again and again and sits in the audience and says, "That's my daughter." She's a big BARE fan.

Dodger: Is it strange to be the…er…mature cast member?

KH: I have been waiting to be 40 for a decade. I don’t miss my 20s and 30s. There's so much more for me to do now. All the roles I want to play are women in their 40s and I am glad I am finally looking old enough to play these kinds of parts.

Dodger: Did you want to steal your BARE undergarments like most of the rest of the cast?

KH: When you sweat in something eight times a week, you don't want to keep it, you want to burn it. If I am going to keep stuff, it's not going to be underwear. It's things like coats or ball gowns. When I was on "Another World" I kept everything made by Calvin Klein and Ann Taylor. And when I had a recurring role on "Dr. Quinn, Medicine Woman" I stole one of the corsets. But only because Jane stole hers.

Dodger: Where do you wear such a thing?

KH: I'm not telling.

Best known for her three-year stint as snobby Libby Chessler on "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch," Jenna Leigh Green is the only BARE cast member to star in both the Los Angeles and New York productions. She even participated in the show's very first reading. Some revealing answers from Jenna Leigh Green, better know as Ivy.

Dodger: Just how many incarnations of BARE have you been in?

JLG: Four million! Seriously, I don't even know if I can really count how many there have been. The original staged concert reading was back in 1999…the one thing I do know is that I have worn some version of my black boots in almost every single reading we’ve ever done. It wasn't intentional and I wasn't even supposed to wear them in [the New York] run.

Dodger: What were you originally going to wear?

JLG: They bought me these Mary Janes to go with my uniform. But at one point, I tried on a potential costume for the rave scene, which came with these black boots. I still had them on when I put my school uniform back on and everyone loved it. It was totally accidental.

Dodger: Do you wear boots like that in real life?

JLG: In the original BARE reading, I wore a cute pair of my own black boots that I actually stole from the set of "Sabrina." I used to steal a lot of clothes from them.

Dodger: You bad girl.

JLG: Everybody did it, not just me! We never really wore anything twice and sometimes we would have four or five outfits per episode. So we would just quote-unquote borrow something for the weekend and never bring it back.

Dodger: Did you or anyone else quote-unquote borrow anything from your BARE wardrobe?

JLG: No. Our costume girl made sure we left everything. A lot of us kept asking if we could keep our undergarments but we were told no.

Dodger: That's too bad. The bra you wear during your sex scene with John Hill is pretty fabulous.

JLG: I wear a total of five pairs of shoes and three bras during the show and that particular bra is a huge part of my character. I tried on so many bras before we found that one. It had matching undies too, but I didn't wear them.

Dodger: What happened to them?

JLG: I don't even know. They'll probably sell my unused panties on eBay. Actually, we all joked about auctioning off my bra and John Hill's underwear if we ever participated in Broadway Cares fundraising.

Dodger: I bet that would make you a ton of cash… although I hope you'd wash them first.

JLG: Oh, we'd have too. The [American Theater of Actors] didn't have air-conditioning. I have never sweat so much in my life. On two-show days, when they didn't have time to clean the costumes between shows, we were some smelly people!

Dodger: Have you ever been in a production of Romeo and Juliet?

JLG: Yes, as Juliet. I am obsessed with it. It's my favorite play of all time. I even named my production company for it: Star Crossed Productions.

Dodger: I read that growing up you performed in a lot of plays at your church?

JLG: John [Hill] and I had very similar upbringings. We both came from religious households where everything revolved around church. That was the only performing I knew anything about when I was a kid. My mom was like the drama director and her friend was the choir director and we had full-on auditions.

Dodger: Did your religious background affect your BARE experience?

JLG: When I first got involved I didn't even know what BARE was about and by the time I realized, I was already hooked. When we did the LA production I was really scared that my parents were going to hate the show so at first I told them not to come. My parents are my hugest supporters so I finally invited them. I was nauseous backstage, I was so nervous for them to see the show. But they loved it! They saw it 16 times.

Dodger: That's amazing. Did they come to see it in New York, too?

JLG: They came to New York for Easter weekend and saw the show four times, twice on Easter Sunday.

Dodger: Now that's a way to celebrate.

JLG: Yeah they really love it. In fact, once in LA my mom overheard someone talking about the show and saying, "oh yeah, BARE, it's a gay story." And my mom interrupted their conversation and said, "It's not a gay story. It's a love story." To me, BARE is universal. It's not preaching to anyone or saying how you should live. It's about these five kids and how they live their lives.

Before he was even a tween, Aaron Lohr was acting in movies and on TV. As an adolescent, he appeared in a number of Disney films, including Newsies and two of the Mighty Ducks franchise. Today this triple threat is all grown up and setting his sights on the stage. Some revealing answers from Aaron Lohr, better know as Matt.

Dodger: So, the important question first: How do you like wearing those hot pants during the wedding scene?

AL: Oh that's nothing. When I was in the national tour of The Full Monty I performed in a G-string.

Dodger: That sounds revealing.

AL: More than you know. When I went to audition for the show in LA, I didn't know anything about it. My agent told me to go rent the movie but I never did. So I went in and sang a song and got a callback in New York. As I was getting on the plane, my agent left me a message on my phone saying I had to go buy myself a G-string. I kind of freaked out.

Dodger: You must have thought you were auditioning for musical porn!

AL: Fortunately, I was on the plane with a few other actors who were flying out and they explained it to me.

Dodger: How did you end up getting your G-string?

AL: When I got to the hotel, I asked the guy in the lobby where I could buy one. He sent me down to a place in Chelsea, I forget the name, and I went down there and found out that you can't try them on. So I just picked out one of the subtle G-strings in black.

Dodger: What's an unsubtle G-string look like?

AL: Powder blue or army fatigue.

Dodger: Ah.

AL: So I took it to the audition, which was a whole ordeal. First I sang, then I waited. Then I did a scene, then I waited. At 5 o'clock they still hadn't mentioned the G-string and I thought I had gotten off scot-free. Then after I learned a dance combination, Jerry [Mitchell, the choreographer] said, "Go put your G-string on." I went and put it on… and it didn't fit! It was too tight. But it was the only one I had. So I came back into the room and Jerry said, "OK, let's see you do your thing." Now I looked ridiculous. I was wearing little ankle socks with my New Balance tennis shoes and a flannel shirt hanging over my G-string. I started the combination and I did a double spin up in the air and when I landed… well…I'm not sure how to put it.

Dodger: You were exposed?

AL: Yeah. But what's even more stupid is that I didn't stop and acknowledge there was a problem. I tried to finish out the rest of the combination and every once in a while I did a hand gesture to adjust myself.

Dodger: Well clearly you impressed everyone in the room since you ended up getting the job. How did you become involved with BARE?

AL: I went to UCLA with Kristin [Hanggi, the director]. She directed me in Corpus Christi in Los Angeles and then she asked me to do the reading of BARE in New York.

Dodger: Do you get fans waiting for you after the show?

AL: It's crazy. There are always a lot of 14 and 15-year old girls. The poor things are all nervous and shaking and don't know what to say to me and they have Newsies CD soundtracks and Mighty Ducks memorabilia for me to sign.

Dodger: Was it difficult to make the transition from child actor to adult?

AL: Definitely. I went from working all the time as a teenager and young adult, then not, then having to reinvent myself and study acting. I had never really studied when I was young. Now I've learned so much.

Dodger: Do you know about all your unofficial online fan sites?

AL: Yeah I've seen a few of them. Are they still up?

Dodger: Totally. My favorite was Absolutely Aaron . That site even has fiction that your fans have written about you.

AL: You're kidding.

Dodger: You should check it out. You're a very popular guy. Were you this cool in high school?

AL: I don't know about cool. I went to a private Catholic high school with old-school nuns in habits. We wore uniforms and had to follow the dress code to a T, unless we were outside playing. We'd play kickball and make bets on who could kick it the farthest and hit the nun in the head.

Dodger: You did not!

AL: Oh yeah. I always missed but there were a couple of guys who'd actually hit them or just miss them and freak them out. Some of those nuns were really mean. We could have used a Sister Chantelle.

Like BARE costar John Hill, Adam Fleming made his Broadway debut in the ensemble of Hairspray while understudying the lead romantic role of Link. Ironically, Fleming now understudies Hill in BARE. But despite their potential rivalry, these guys are the best of buddies. Some revealing answers from Adam Fleming, better know as Lucas.

Dodger: What's the deal: Are you following John Hill or vice versa?

AF: No, no, nothing like that. It's just coincidence. But we love working together.

Dodger: Did you and John Hill meet on Hairspray?

AF: Yup. That whole experience was so crazy. I was 23 when it started and in the year and a half that I was in it, I think I aged four years. It was a whirlwind of celebrity and money and success. Everybody was buying us drinks and getting us wasted. It was out of control.

Dodger: Sounds a lot like the life Lucas aspires to in BARE.

AF: It's great being the dirty kid! I was sick of being the nice, clean-cut kid from Hairspray. Lucas is the shit. I love him. He does whatever he wants and wreaks havoc on the school.

Dodger: How did you become involved with BARE?

AF: Last October my agent called and was like, "Do you want to do this reading? You get to rap about drugs and be stupid." So I said, "Sure!"

Dodger: You weren't nervous about having to rap?

AF: I always get the rap songs. I went to a performing arts high school in Atlanta, GA where I was in the show choir. We did that Marky Mark song "Good Vibrations." That was my first experience rapping. Then I worked at Six Flags and I rapped there as well. So by BARE, I was really comfortable with it.

Dodger: Seems like Lucas was a perfect fit for you.

AF: Definitely.

Dodger: So what happened after the reading?

AF: We all had to audition again for the production. We had this crazy dance call where we had to show up and act like we were on ecstasy. They put on some dance club mix and were like, "Go!" It was one of the hardest dance auditions I've ever done. All of us were working our asses off… and then we didn't dance much in the show.

Dodger: Did you have a lot of experience to draw from, in terms of acting like you were on ecstasy?

AF: No comment… let's just say I have been to a rave here in the city and it was too much for me.

Dodger: Were you a goody-goody as a teenager?

AF: I was a good Southern boy. I mean, I wasn't smoking behind a Dumpster or anything.

Dodger: So who in BARE were you most like?

AF: I guess during my high school career I would relate most to Jason, except that I wasn't a jock. But I got all the leads in the shows and senior year I was voted most talented.

Dodger: I googled you and discovered that many of your fans are… how do I put this… fixated on your rear end. What do you think about that?

AF: A lot of comments are made about my butt and I am kind of used to it by now. In high school I was friends with all these black girls and they always talked about my butt. One of them used to say that some poor black boy was walking around the world with no ass because I had his.

Dodger: Wow, your butt seems to have a cult of its own! Are their fans that appreciate your whole package?

AF: There's this guy named Broadwayguy2 on broadwayworld.com. He refers to me as "The Adamness." I thought it was kind of weird at first but I ended up meeting him after one of the shows. We walked a block together. He was so sweet and so nice.

Dodger: I'm going to start calling you "The Adamness." That's just too cool! Overall, how has BARE affected you?

AF: I feel like I have grown up a lot through it as an actor and as a person and I hope people can see me more as a person playing a principle role versus being an ensemble member. The people I was working with affected me a lot too: Natalie [Joy Johnson] and John and Kaitlin [Hopkins.] It was amazing watching her do her bit every night. It was an acting class in and of itself. Now I am excited for BARE to move on and get even bigger and better.
Random

-I randomly decided to go back to VA today with Chris, instead of tomorrow. I didn't want to be stuck in lots of traffic tomorrow, especially with 3 other people in the car.
-I took out my corn rows after only one day. I had a hard time falling asleep with them in last night cause they hurt my head a lot! After taking them out, my hair is incredibly curly and greasy from the JAM stuff that was put in it
-I got an email from my peer leader at Wagner (isn't that cool!) and there seem to be 7 other people in my group, and my peer leaders name is Crescendo which is just really cool!
-Now I'm stuck in VA for a week, but I think I will have a car so I will be making trips and such (wouldn't it be fun to randomly drive to NYC!)..at least I get to go see Charlie on Tuesday and Thursday!

I didn't see this story listed anywhere when I went to playbill yesterday..hmm
Speaking of that boy, I wanna email him cause he seems to want emails, but I don't know what to say without sounding way fangirl-like. Sad that there are no messages yet in his guestbook either...and I don't wanna be the first one!

Dinner

Usually I wouldn't write about dinner because it is usually a boring event. Tonight it wasn't.
Tonight the 6 of us at the house (me, my mom, aunt, uncle, 2 cousins) went to eat with my Aunt's best friend and her family (mom, dad, son, son's girlfriend, daugther), and then family friend's of theirs (mom, dad, 2 daughters), and then this random lady who was very drunk and sat next to me. We went to eat at a Thai restaurant which apparently the other family has been going to for a LONG time every summer that they're at the beach.
So first of all, I felt really weird cause all the younger people were all older than me and all really good friends, so they were all talking. My cousins who are older than me weren't talking with them a lot, but they had more in common with the others than me. This caused me to feel very uncomfortable. Also, EVERYONE except for me was drinking, even my 20 year old cousin. I guess I could have gotten away with it, but I don't really like alcoholic drinks, so I got a Thai Iced tea instead (which everyone thought was an alcoholic drink).
I was very surprised when they let all the older kids leave together in one car when they had all had at least 2 drinks.
Anyways, the thing that creeped me out the most was the old lady who worked there. She apparently was like the "mama" of the restaurant and thats what she was calling herself. She was always muttering whether it be to someone or herself, but what she said made no sense. She said she was Filipino, but she was very confusing about it.It really annoyed me when she decided to poke me to see if I wanted water, but the strangest thing that she did follows: (not exact words)
HER: "You want more water!"
ME: "Ok"
HER: "You hot? :goes behind me, PULLS DOWN MY SHIRT!::walks away:
ME: :looks at cousins across table:
:cousins look questioning:
:I'm laughing yet at the same time crying:

It was very strange. You don't pull down the shirt of a customer in your restaurant. I guess pulling down shirt sounds strange. the bottom of my back was showing i guess (no, not my butt) and she pulled down the back to cover it.
I could understand her not wanting mid-riffs being shown in her restaurant, but the fact that one of the girls across from me was wearing a rather low tube-top makes me question why the lady did that to me!
I was very happy to finally be able to leave...all the people I didn't know were very strange and scary!
